CallRail alternative for contractors: Ringback vs CallRail
Checked October 9, 2026 on CallRail's own site. Prices change, so follow the sources before you buy.
CallRail is call tracking and marketing attribution software that also offers automated text-backs and an AI voice agent. Ringback is only missed-call text-back and booking, built for contractors. If what you want is the text-back, here is how they compare.
| Ringback | CallRail | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $17/month (or $170/year), flat per business | Lead Tracking from $50/month plus usage (5 numbers, 250 minutes and 25 texts included; extra texts $0.03 each); Voice Assist AI agent from $95/month on top of a Lead Tracking plan, $1 per call after the included calls |
| Setup fee | $0 | None listed on the pricing page |
| Trial / terms | 7-day free trial | 14-day free trial (texting is available after the trial) |
| Your phone number | Keeps your number as is: an app on the Android phone your business line already rings on sends the text from that number. No forwarding, porting or new number. (With an iPhone: the Mac helper, beta, texts from your iPhone's own number through a Mac that stays on; or unanswered calls are forwarded to a spare Android and the text comes from that phone's number.) | Calls and texts run through CallRail tracking numbers (5 included, extra local numbers $3 each) that forward to your phone. |
| Also includes | Online booking page with confirmations and day-before reminders, lead inbox with replies from the dashboard, business-hours and after-hours messages, automatic STOP/START handling. | Call tracking and attribution by ad and keyword, call recording and transcription, automated text responses ("instant text-backs"), click-to-text for your site, form tracking on higher plans, AI call answering with Voice Assist. |
Where CallRail is better
- Shows which ad, keyword or listing produced each call, which matters if you spend on Google Ads or Local Services Ads.
- An AI voice agent (Voice Assist) can answer the call itself.
- Works with any phone, because calls are forwarded through CallRail numbers.
Where Ringback is better
- $17 a month flat, with no per-minute or per-text usage on top.
- Texts come from your own business number, not a tracking number.
- Nothing to build: install the app, pair it and set your message. No numbers, flows or rules to configure.
- Includes an online booking page with reminders.
The catch with Ringback
Ringback runs on an Android phone that your business number rings on (iPhones cannot send texts automatically). With an iPhone and a Mac that stays on, the Ringback Mac helper (beta) texts from your iPhone's own number. Otherwise, if your calls ring only on a desk phone or an iPhone, forward unanswered calls to a spare Android phone running Ringback (see the iPhone guide); texts then come from that phone's number, not your main number. Or choose a tool that works through call forwarding.
Questions
Does CallRail text back missed calls?
CallRail's texting page offers automated responses ("instant text-backs") and custom message flows; texting is available after the 14-day trial and runs on CallRail numbers. Ringback does only this, from your own number.
Is Ringback cheaper than CallRail?
For text-back alone, yes: Ringback is $17 a month flat; CallRail starts at $50 a month plus usage (checked October 9, 2026). If you need call tracking for your ads, CallRail does something Ringback does not.
Can I use CallRail and Ringback together?
Yes, if your CallRail numbers forward to the Android phone running Ringback, Ringback texts the calls that go unanswered there. Check that you are not sending two texts to the same caller if CallRail's own text-back is switched on.
