GoHighLevel missed-call text-back: how it works, what you need and what it costs (2026)
Updated October 9, 2026
HighLevel (often called GoHighLevel or GHL) is an all-in-one marketing platform built mainly for agencies, which run a "sub-account" for each client business. One of its best-known features is Missed Call Text Back. This guide explains how it works and what it costs, using only HighLevel's own help center and pricing page, checked on October 9, 2026. HighLevel changes its product often, so follow the links before you decide.
How HighLevel's missed-call text-back works
From HighLevel's help article "Where and How to Configure the Missed Call Text Back Feature":
- Where it lives: in the sub-account, Settings → Phone System → Voice → Voicemail & Missed Call Text Back. You turn it on, write the message, send a test and save.
- What counts as missed: a call becomes "missed" once it rings past the incoming call timeout; HighLevel says 10 to 20 seconds is typically recommended. Answered calls never trigger a text.
- Every missed call gets a text: the article says the feature "triggers an SMS notification for every missed call", even if the same person calls again a minute later. To limit repeats, HighLevel suggests editing the Workflows recipe (a wait step, or filtering by call-count tags).
- Which number it sends from: the number the caller dialed if it can send SMS; otherwise HighLevel falls back to another eligible number in the sub-account, so the text can come from a different number than the one they called.
- Merge fields such as the contact's first name only fill in if HighLevel already knows the caller from an earlier interaction.
- Contacts on DND get nothing, and failed sends are logged in the conversation with a reason.
What you need before it works
- A HighLevel plan (see costs below), or a sub-account from an agency that runs HighLevel; its plans are priced for agencies.
- A phone number in HighLevel that can send texts. HighLevel's own phone system is LC Phone (see its "What is LC Phone System?" article); calls to your number have to reach HighLevel for it to see they were missed. In practice that means a HighLevel number on your ads and website, or forwarding your existing number to one.
- Texting registration. HighLevel says at least one number in the location must be verified and eligible to send SMS: A2P 10DLC registration for local numbers, or toll-free verification for toll-free numbers. Unregistered business texting from 10-digit numbers is routinely filtered by US carriers. Background: is missed-call text-back legal?
What it really costs
Plan prices from highlevel.com/pricing (checked October 9, 2026):
| HighLevel plan | Monthly | Yearly | Sub-accounts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $97/month | $970/year | 3 |
| Unlimited | $297/month | $2,970/year | Unlimited |
| Agency Pro | $497/month | $4,970/year | Unlimited |
All three list a 14-day free trial. The pricing page marks SMS and calling with "*Usage based charges apply", and those usage charges come on top. From HighLevel's Phone System Pricing & Billing Guide and its A2P 10DLC fees article, both checked October 9, 2026:
- Phone number: $1.15/month for a US local number, $2.15/month toll-free.
- Texts: $0.00747 per SMS segment in the US and Canada, charged on both outbound and inbound messages, plus carrier fees that vary by carrier. A long message or one with an emoji uses more segments.
- Calls: billed per minute, inbound and outbound.
- A2P 10DLC registration: $22.50 one-time for a sole proprietor or low-volume standard brand ($64.00 for high-volume standard), plus a monthly campaign fee: $2.00 for a sole proprietor starter campaign, $1.50 for low-volume mixed, $10.00 for standard use cases. HighLevel says these are pass-through charges with no HighLevel markup.
- If you're a client of an agency, you usually pay the agency's own monthly price instead of HighLevel's, and HighLevel lets agencies rebill phone usage (with a markup on Agency Pro). Ask your agency for the all-in number.
When HighLevel makes sense, and when it doesn't
HighLevel fits if you'll use the rest of the platform: a CRM and pipelines, funnels and websites, email and SMS campaigns, review requests, or an agency running all of that for you. Missed-call text-back is one small piece of it.
It's a lot to take on if the only thing you want is for missed callers to get a text. You'd be paying a platform fee, moving calls onto (or forwarding them through) a HighLevel number, registering for 10DLC and building a workflow to stop repeat texts, all for one feature.
A simpler option for one feature
Ringback is a stand-alone missed-call text-back app, not a CRM or marketing platform. It runs on the Android phone your business number already rings on, so the text goes out from your own number within seconds, there's no new number or call forwarding, and because it sends from the phone's own SIM there's no 10DLC campaign to register. It texts each caller at most once in a set window however many times they ring, skips your team, your do-not-text list and withheld numbers, handles STOP/START automatically, and includes a lead inbox and an online booking page. It doesn't do funnels, email campaigns or pipelines (side by side: Ringback vs HighLevel), and it runs on an Android phone your business line rings on (with an iPhone: on a Mac with the Mac helper, beta, texting from your own number, or on a spare Android in relay mode, where texts come from the spare phone's number).
It costs $17/month (or $170/year) with no setup fee. There's a 7-day free trial: you add a card through PayPal when you sign up, nothing is charged during the trial, and it's charged automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel first.
