Missed-call text-back for auto glass and window tint shops: catching callers while you install
Updated October 22, 2026
Auto glass and tint work keeps hands busy. A windshield goes in with urethane that can't wait while you take a call, tint film goes on in a clean bay where you don't stop halfway, and mobile techs are in a customer's driveway with no one at the shop phone. A driver with a cracked windshield or a smashed side window usually calls the next shop on the list. A missed-call text-back sends every caller you miss a text from your own number within seconds, so they know you got the call and can send a photo or book.
The calls glass and tint shops get
- Chips and small cracks: "can this be repaired or does it need a new windshield?" A photo answers most of these.
- Windshield replacement, often with an insurance question attached: whether their policy covers glass and what they will owe.
- Broken side and back glass after a break-in or a stray rock. These callers want the car closed up today, especially if rain is coming.
- Tint quotes: which windows, which film, and what removing old purple or bubbling film costs.
- Questions about legal tint darkness for their state.
- Home and office window film, if you do flat glass as well as cars.
When glass and tint shops miss calls
- During an install, when the adhesive or the film can't wait.
- On mobile jobs, when the tech is at a customer's house or workplace and the shop phone rings back at base.
- One-person shops, where the installer is also the owner, the estimator and the person who answers.
- Evenings and weekends, when break-ins and cracked windshields still happen.
Example texts for glass and tint shops
Auto glass, business hours: "Hi, this is Clearview Auto Glass. Sorry we missed your call, we're mid-install. Reply with your year, make and model, which glass is damaged and a photo, or book here: [link] Reply STOP to opt out."
Window tint: "Hi, this is Clearview Tint. We're in the bay and missed your call. Reply with your year, make and model and which windows you want done (and whether there's old tint to remove), and we'll text you options and a time. Book here: [link]"
After hours: "Clearview Auto Glass here, closed until 8. If a window is broken, reply with a photo and where the car is parked and we'll call first thing, or book here: [link]. Reply STOP to opt out."
Keep it about the call. Don't put coupons or prices in the automatic text; see auto-reply texts for missed calls for why.
Insurance, calibration and tint law questions
Glass callers often ask about insurance before anything else. Your reply can ask for their insurer and whether they have glass coverage, and you can explain what happens next once you know. If the vehicle has a camera behind the windshield for lane or braking features, many replacements also need that camera recalibrated, so ask for the year, make and model up front and say in your reply whether you handle it.
Tint callers often ask what is legal. The limits are set by each state and differ by window, so answer once you know where the car is registered, or point them to their state's rules. Don't put a number in the automatic text.
What to ask when they reply
- Year, make and model, and for glass, any features they know about: a rain sensor, a heated windshield, a camera behind the mirror.
- A photo of the chip, the crack or the broken window, with something for scale.
- Where the vehicle will be, if you do mobile work.
- Insurer and glass coverage, if they want to claim.
- For tint: which windows, the look they want, and whether old film has to come off.
Glass and tint shop software
Auto glass shops often run quotes, scheduling and insurance billing in software such as Omega EDI or GlassBiller, and tint shops use tools such as Tint Wiz for quotes and bookings. Ringback isn't one of these and doesn't connect to them. It catches the call you missed; if your system has a booking link, use it in the text.
Where Ringback fits
Ringback is missed-call text-back with a booking page, not an answering service or job software. It runs on the Android phone your business line rings on (or, with an iPhone, on a Mac with the Mac helper, beta), texts each missed caller from your own number (separate business-hours and after-hours messages, STOP/START handled) and puts replies in one inbox. $17/month or $170/year, no setup fee; 7-day free trial, no card to start (add PayPal only to keep it after the trial; if you don't, texting pauses).

Questions
What should an auto glass shop text a caller it missed?
Your shop name, that you got the call, and one next step: reply with the year, make and model, which glass is damaged and a photo, or book with your link. Add Reply STOP to opt out. If you do mobile work, ask for the address where the vehicle will be.
What should a window tint shop text a caller it missed?
Your shop name and a request for the year, make and model, which windows they want tinted, and whether they have old film that needs removing. If you quote by film line, say you will send options. Book a time with your link.
Can Ringback answer tint law questions?
No. Ringback only sends the text you write and collects replies. Tint limits are set by each state and differ by window, so your reply should point the customer to their state's rules or answer it yourself once you know where the car is registered.
Does Ringback connect to auto glass or tint shop software?
No. Ringback does not create quotes, invoices, insurance claims or work orders and does not connect to glass or tint shop systems. If your system has an online booking link, you can put that link in Ringback's settings so missed callers book straight into it.
Ringback works on an Android phone your business line rings on, or with an iPhone plus a Mac (Mac helper, beta) or a spare Android: see missed-call text-back on iPhone.
